We have submitted a corporate complaint to Newcastle City Council regarding the systemic failure to monitor and enforce implementation of landscaping and ecological measures in Newcastle Great Park.
This repeated failure – over 16 years – has resulted in significant harm to wildlife in the Great Park and across the wider area.
There has been no proper assessment of the impact of large-scale development on wildlife. There is, however, evidence that farmland birds, urban birds, Brown Hare, Roe Deer, Water Vole have seen a dramatic decline.
Where habitats for Great Crested Newt have been provided, populations are said to be at risk due to isolation and severance by new highways infrastructure.
Harm caused by severance of wildlife corridors, human activity and the construction of new roads has caused further significant harm to wildlife habitat, with no mitigation.
